Here is an article from the Modern Driveline web site on the history of the T5. Tremec bought the manual shift transmission line from Borg Warner around 1998.

That was exactly my plan for the T-5...buy a cheap one that needs to be rebuilt (as long as there are no cracks in the case) and send it off to G-Force Transmissions. I was thinkig about a T-10 for a while because they are so tough, but I really want the overdrive.
