Speaking of Veteran's Day the Enterprise is being retired on Dec 1 2012.  Built in the Late Y block period she is to be scrapped in Washington State.  One of her mottos was " 8 Reactors none faster"   She is/was equiped with 8 mid sized reactors that were similar to sub reactors but about 4 times bigger.  All other CVN's have 2 reactors that are bigger still. I helped with her  3rd refueling in Newport News in 1969 -1970 which essentially was replacing all the guts of each of the reactors with new cores with much more uranium so that she was supposed to go for 15 years before refueling 4.

Ran across a Docu-drama recently on the Normandy invasion. While it succeeded, anything that could go wrong did, including the weather. I didn't know that Field Marshall Rommel had helped design the Nazi defences. His planning cost the allied troops dearly. Some of the troops that survived the assault were interviewed. Frankly it was very hard to watch.. I can't imagine being on one of the landing barges, & hiting the shore in front of a machine gun nest.. but that's what happened to some of the troops.. Lest we Forget!

I would also like to offer my heartfelt thanks to all the veterans for their service. 

I was recently in Hawaii and visited the Arizona memorial.  It was very moving and difficult to even read the  names of the sailors and marines that you knew were entombed in that huge ship you could see just below where you were standing.  Where the Arizona rests is truly hallowed ground.

And to those that are now serving, may they all return home safely.  God Bless.

Was asked to attend a Veterans ceremony here in Az. About a dozen showed up. A few from Nam, a few more from Korea & 1 WWII veteran. Some of those guys were all over the world. We were asked to stand & describe our military service. There were some real heros there (certainly not me) esp. the WWII Vet. Was proud to be there.

Thank you guys for your service. My father was a combat engineer, he landed first wave on Normandy beach, to try and clear the beach before the main invasion, also he was wounded in the battle of the bulge. He would never talk much about it. Hard to believe he was only 19 or 20 when he went through all that. Tom

I will add my 2 cents as well and say a heartfelt and grateful "THANK YOU" to all of you that have served, or are serving still. I was born overseas because my dad was NOT a draft-dodger and did his time during Vietnam. Thank God I have a father that was, and is, a great role model for me and for my kids.

One of our boys from our church youth group finishes boot camp next week down at Parris Island. I will be there at his graduation service, rooting him on.
