The corps of men charged with an American landing on the surface of the moon has grown smaller -Godspeed Neil Armstrong......

My outfit recently was asked by NASA to bid on repairing a vehicle at the cape - and when we went to do the "walk around", the transporter (1965 model) was parked in a side bay of the VAB  - where they assembled the Saturn V. It is hard to go there without invoking the memories of my early years of watching these guys climb into the succession of larger and larger vehicles - until finally the ultimate machines took them to the moon. NASA continues to keep the place ready for re-activation - all it take is a forward thinking administration.

Any nation that wishes to compete with America needs to be aware that our fathers did this and we can too.

The really scary thing about the moon landing is the technology used to get them there. Their commuters barely had the capacity of a Commodore64. With today's computers of 3.0 Mb processors you would think anything is possible. The movie Apollo13 certainly showed how rudimentary the equipment was.

It wasn't that long ago that a 1.0Mb processor was regarded as a supercomputer and export was prohibited to certain countries.

It is surprising how well the old Yblock design stands up today with the advent of all the new stuff around.

If the Obamba is re elected we will not be going back into space in the next 4 years. The "we can do it"  attitude seems to have died in this country.  I fail to understand how a country who could put men on the moon with such rudimentry technology cannot figure out how to finance and set up a workable health care plan.

Well said, Steve. I'm old enough to remember that. My Italian grandfather looked at me and said " I remember going to Rome, and seeing my first car, and reading when the Wright brothers flew the first time. Now, I see men on the moon. No man will ever see more in one lifetime."

With no regard to politics, I've been to a lot of car shows this year, and what we can do with no one in our way is amazing. I'm sure if it was train, or wood, or whatever shows, it would be the same. There's still a lot of talent and ambition in this country.

Carl.  Ditto on the observation that the flag is not flying at half mast for the passing of a truly great American.  Seems it flies at half mast for a lot less these days but not for the reasons that made this country great.

I heard on the news that the powers that be came out of the ozone. Flags will go to half mast day of services.

You're wrong Frank, I know a guy around Bakersfield, too. No names, can't blow his cover. They call it the left coast for more than one reason.

I remember watching Neil walking on the moon on our little B/W tv when I was a kid and thinking of a bright future when I might do the same, I grew up with great hope for what lay in store. I don't know where that feeling went.

I'm on the "Left" coast and you wont find anyone more conservative, there are quite a few of us in "the Big Valley" still.
