Ok, my Mummert adapter has arrived. BigGrin Now the question I have is for the pilot bushing and the throw-out bearing. Do I use a stock 56 bushing & bearing or do I use Mustang parts???? If so, anyone have the part #'s I need? Just sand blasting all the 56 Ford clutch linkage, etc. and getting everything ready for paint and install.

I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning!

Use a stock 56 throw out bearing. As for the pilot I ordered a replacement bearing from Mummert when I purchased the adapter.

your stock bushings may work, just measure the od on the pilot shaft and compare it to the Id on the bushing.

Tremecs and T-5's work better with a bearing than a bushing. As the bushing wears the shifting quality will deteriorate.

When I installed my T-5 the instructions I had at the time were to cut 1/4" off the end of the pilot on the transmission input shaft because they were too long and would/could bottom out on the crank if you didn't. I don't know if John has changed anything with his adapters since then so you wouldn't have to do this, but I did. Also, I tried to use a bearing instead of a bushing, but when you are trying to line-up the tranny (even using a clutch alignment tool) I couldn't get the pilot on the input shaft to go into that bearing. It's supposed to be a tight fit, but without beating on the tranny housing it just wouldn't go so I used a new bushing and life was good again.

John modified my original 56 release fork by welding on two 3/16" pieces of round stock where the fork rides on the bearing. I can't remember if this was a newer style bearing or not, of if I had a truck clutch fork if that makes any difference.

Just my experience with the installation. I love the set-up.BigGrin

The original fork and throw out bearing will work just fine.

The pilot diameter of the T5 is the same as all Fords going way back, .668". The exception is the 4-cly Mustangs which are .590". That's the easiest way to identify a 4-cyl T5.

Rono, you must be using a truck clutch fork, but I don't know how that would work in a car bellhousing.

Thanks for the info John. The truck clutch fork seems to work fine in the car bellhousing. I haven't had any issues. I do have another car bellhousing and clutch fork I'll be using for the blower motor build.
