Was re-reading the service bulletin about the dual four "high power" kit Ford offered in '56.  Reading through the instructions, they detailed what parts to remove, including the cam and lifters.  The first project after that was to rework the distributor and set the advance curve. then return the distributor to the engine and set the rotor to #1.  Then they said to install the other parts from the kit, heads, valley cover, draft tube, cam and lifters, etc.  I can just see the frustration on the face of a rookie mechanic trying to get the rear cam journal past the distributor gear.  And even if he did, chances are the rotor would not point to the right cylinder when he cam was timed.
