Ted I checked out the EMC site last night and see that you have a dyno time confirmed. Just wondering what the expressions will be when you uncrate that mystery "SCRUB" motor. Good luck and have a safe trip.

Glen.  You’ve got sharp eyes in spotting the Y entry in that run schedule.  When the engine is uncrated, the Thunderbird covers I plan on using will be the first indication that not all is as originally submitted in the entry form.  Using a different engine than listed on the entry is still legal as long as the engine actually being run still fits the rules so I'm covered from that standpoint.

Although this years Y entry is likely not going to be a top place contender, it’s definitely much stronger this year with the aluminum heads than with the oem iron heads used in last years combination.  But regardless, I’m looking for this years Y combination to be much higher up in the scoring than last year.  With a considerable amount of dyno time available this year,  I was able to tweak on the tuneup and concentrate on the 2500-3000 rpm range heavily and work on getting the score higher in this area.  I've sacrificed some of the top end numbers to help the overall score for this year.  Plans are to run the engine one last time on Thursday morning to try out one more idea that Geoff Mummert (John’s son) has suggested.  I’ll add that Geoff has been extremely helpful this year on ideas and suggestions that have helped to fine tune the combination with the aluminum heads.  Thanks again Geoff.

Ted, thank you for the kind comments. I'm sure Geoff will appreciate them.

Unfortunately, Jerry didn't make it into the contest so Ted will will be our lone representative. Ted has worked tirelessly on his combination and we believe a lot of competitors with "more modern" engines will go home with their tails between their legs.

Best of luck Ted and do us proud!

Jerry Christenson was called this morning by the Engine Master folks and offered a spot. Although he had given up on making the contest Jerry accepted and is proceeding with renewed enthusiasm.

All he has to do is assemble the engine, dyno test and tune it and get it to Ohio by Tuesday morning. In his words, "No Problem".

Just think how far we have come in a couple of years! From fighting to justify the mushroom lifters and get any Y-block into the contest to them actually calling for another one to add to the list! Great work Ted, Jerry and all included. I think they may be waking up. Take a VCR of the shootout and play it constantly in the break roomSmile. Anybody have a video of the record run? Chuck in NH

just can't keep from adding a comment.

This is going to be great. And I've said it before "not bad for a long forgotten engine"

I just love it when a plan comes together...BigGrin
