Hello All, I'm currently chasing a set of compression rings for a 272, 20thou over motor (0.090" width) as I have a compression problem, but will take the oil rings as well in a set if required. They are very hard to source here in Australia as I can't find any except for some "chrome" ones, but I've been told they should only be put into a new fresh bore, and not into mine which I'm planning to give a light hone only. Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm happy to pay extra for the exchange rate and postage etc as I just can't source them here. 30thou no problems, but not the 20's I'm looking for. All my pistons, bearings etc are great hence just chasing the rings and going to clean up the valves and seats as well. I was planning to get right into it this week as she is all apart, but can't locate any rings. Cheers Whitey

Here’s the contact info for Verne Schumann. I did get a set of 020 over 272 pistons and rings about a year ago from Verne so he may still have some ring sets left. Schumann’s Sales and Service 227 W Mayne St., Box 128, Blue Grass, Iowa 52776 Phone: 563 - 381 - 2416

Gents, thanks for the advice / help. I was planning to call egge midnight tonight which is 0700 west coast time, but will call Schumanns as well. Before I do, can I get an answer to the above couple of points raised by ol' ford nut and valincoln. Can I use chrome rings in an old bore (not newly bored) as I was told they won't seat well? What are the best type of ring to ask for when speaking to egge etc? The motor has been rebuilt by a company here in Australia a while ago with there own pistons that also have 2 sets of oil rings per piston. They may not be standard compression rings either, but there measured width on digital calipers is .090" Is that standard for replacements. Also can .030's be nicked down to fit as they are easy to find over here. Any answer is greatly appreciated as I was going to start calling the US tonight, and if either of the two above points a agreed to be alright I can go that option. If no answers I'll be a calling as she's all apart and waiting for those rings!! Cheers Whitey

Bill, Yeah mate, that was me stalking you. I will definately call you tomorrow as that is exactly what I'm after. Just to make sure can you measure them when you get back to the shop and check that they are .090 in width. Cheers Whitey

Bill, Just thought I'd better check as well if they are chrome rings, as it's going into a old bore with a hone only, not a new freshly done one. Cheers Whitey
