Hoosier Hurricane (9/6/2010)
Paul: The Pinto won Sunday also. First double Y shoohout winner. Sorry I did not get to spend some time talkinig with you, seems one or the other of us were a;waus engaged in something else going on. John, sounds like a lot of the regulars encountered problems this year, including your headgaskets, did you notice if there was a car running the new aluminum heads and if so how did it go?? I know there will be more details filtering through once everyone settles back down, mctim, myself and the other armchair racers are eager to catch up on the event. thank you, regards bill

Made it home safely this afternoon. I think next year the pinto should have a restrictor plate. Gary was running the new heads. He blew the radiator hose off the radiator in the lane aside of me. I think a blown head gasket was pressurizing his cooling system. He thought it ran stronger. We'll have to wait for him to tell us. Lon beat Wally on sunday with Bob's merc. That's always an accomplishment. Doug, somehow I ended up with the flag again.

Debbie and I just made it home (713 miles). Thanks to all that bought some of my parts, the funds will go toward getting the Falcon ready for next year. We went to the yard sales Sunday afternoon and I wound up buying more stuff than see did! A new set of slicks, a Summit cam degree set, a set of dial bore gauges, and some old NASCAR MODELS. I hate that I did not get to watch much of the racing, but the parts business was keeping me pretty busy. Can't wait until next year.

Thanks for the delivery Glen. I made it to my daughters house in Dearborn without any problems. Temp check on the rearend after a couple of hours of 50-55mph was 150 degrees. 250 after highway speeds so I guess the Dana 60 is the answer to my burnt up rears ends. I had a great time and didn't get too much flack from Jerry C. over my "mystery motor". See you all next year! Just found out the Chrysler Museum has a Mopar show and swap meet next sunday so I've decided to stay for that. Chuck in NH
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

I had a good time but was expecting a little more of the car show and swapmeet for the money it cost to get in,I enjoyed watching the Y blocks race but the rest was just like a race at my local track where I would of spent way less to attend. I had to make a house payment friday so my money was tight this weekend and should of stayed home but I had a good time anyway,I dont know if I will attend next year unless I bring a car to race but will most likely be at the Easyriders motorcycle rodeo south of Columbus in Chillicothe.

The aluminum heads were stronger from one end to the other. wasn't a head gasket that blew but looks like a small split in my #2 cylinder wall. Will pull the driver side head off and see what it's like to be sure I'm not missing something. With the #2 cylinder not looking good I'm not feeling to good either but will take it as it comes and make it stronger the next time. The Mummert heads at this time seem to be the way to go, I felt NO POWER loss at the bottom end at all but more power, and it kept making great power at the top end at 6200 rpms as well.

Gary: Thanks for the update on the heads. I'm sorry to hear about your block, but I think we all breathed a sigh of relief that it is not related to the heads. My typing on my last post was terrible. Guess I'll have to go back to high school to Mr. Jordan's typing class for rehab. Have the head off the Hurricane, but haven't found a definitive answer to the problem. This gasket is blown as severly as the one of 3 weeks ago. I was hoping to find a problem with the top deck of the block, but even with a dial indicator I can't find any warpage, block or head. I think the next step will be to determine if the centerline of the cylinder has been moved upward.

Gary, thats a great report on the heads, looks like we,ll have to regear the car for trackwork to use up that spare topend power? at least you,ll chuckle when lifting the head off at how much lighter and easier on the back it is,.

I got back about 2 hours ago. I have some video for Youtube. I might not be able to get them uploaded until next week. Now I have to get ready for some Volkswagen drag racing next weekend, in Salem, Oh.
