A question I've not found the answer to.I have a COM that was in a 61 with a 352 FE.Can I switch the bell housing from my FOM to this COM and bolt it to my Y-Block?What about the flywheel and torque convertor?Use them from the FOM?

Paul: Yes, the COM will bolt to the Y bellhousing. The FOM converter will work only if the FOM has a 29 spline input shaft, not the smaller 17 spline one.

Thanks John, The FOM is an early 56,air-cooled,so it's probably going to have the smaller spline. If so,can I use the COM convertor and flywheel?Or is this like the FMX swap and require the front pump and input shaft to be swapped.

Paul: The FE flywheel will not bolt to the Y. Also, the snout diameter on the FE converter is larger than the Y. Your easiest way would be to find an air cooled Y converter with the 29 spline turbine or a '59 and later Y flywheel and converter.

OK,Thanks again John.I'll do some searching for the parts.I've got 3 air-cooled FOMs that I can check.Just need to find the time and energy to pull them.

well, to add my two cents to all of this--i put a 62 c-o-m in my 55 bird and the only weird thing about it was the cruiseo converter pilot was larger than the hole in the back of the 55 crank--my local auto tranny repair shop researched this problem and first tried to grind down the pilot on the 62 cruiso to the 55 crank size---did not work--they 'broke thru' on the pilot and ruined the converter--(hmmmmm.. and made me pay for another converter)--then they went thru all their parts books (lots of them) and found a cruiso converter that had the exact same pilot hole that fit the early y-block crank--this fixed it--they did not tell me the part no. or vender of this converter, but if you contact them , i'm sure they will help you --(there was also a 'issue' with the warrenty they give when they rebuild your trans--they would not 'stand behind' their rebuild work unless they provided the converter you will use--no 'third party' converters would be allowed--who knows what garbage is in the converter you bring in--they wouldn't even allow a brand new converter from the hot rod shop. (??????) ...they said they had new and used converters on rebuilds they did and the trans failed --and then they find the converter was at fault--ok--i'll buy that, i guess----one more thing---the output spline on the cruiseo is larger that the ford 0 matic--the driveshaft won't fit--you will have to get the front yoke from a cruiseo and use it on your driveshaft--not that difficult--i can send you photos of how i did this--) and you must balance the driveshaft after this is done, too----cruiseos have vac modulators--must run a vac line to this--trans crossmember mount location is different-you'll have to modify that, too---call my cell for info???-in ohio--- 419-377-9449 or morgus@accesstoledo.com-----bye EDDIE
