Well, the weather finally became decent here in Indiana, and I took the Hurricane to the track.  It seemed comfortable in its surroundings, and answered with an off the truck pass of 12.02.  As the afternoon and evening wore on, it responded with a series of seven runs between 11.96 and 11.89.  All were in the 113 to 114.5 mph range.  By making this number of runs, I found myself in the final run for my bracket.  That's when my ballon finally burst, I redlighted away my chance for a win.  But a runner-up first time out isn't bad in my book.  It felt GOOOOOOD!!!

Charlie:

The best ever ET was late in the fall when the air is good and traction still there, was 11.43 and 118.  That was with a 4.57 rear end, and I didn't like running it at that rpm for that long (seemed like a long time anyway) so I put a 4.33 gear in to slow the engine some.  Well, it slowed the engine, which slowed the blower, which slowed the car.  Ended up losing nearly 1/2 second and 4-5 mph, so I figure the engine is still in top form and would run those numbers again if I put the 4.57 back in.

The Hemi Frank mentioned was a new Dodge Charger Hemi, the "tribute" car to the '69 Charger.  I ran him in time trials, and thought, "this thing is going to embarrass me, it's a modern muscle car with injection and computer".  I treed him a couple tenths, and at the end of the quarter I looked for him.  Couldn't find him looking out the side window, couldn't find him in my rear view mirror.  He was in my blind spot.  Didn't see him until I was at the end of the shutdown area.  He ran a 16.23 at 93 to my 12.02 at 113.  Muscle car????  No offense intended poly 318.

My 69 Fairlane Cobra turned 13's off the lot! Eventually with slicks and tuning saw a 12.2 108mph quarter. This model of Fairlane was once known as the fastest production car of its time!

One of my memories was lining up against "Lanes Olds", A dealer, factory racer from Alexandria, Virginia. All pretty paint, with sponsor decals all over, big tires etc. Left him in first and never saw him again! He claimed to have missed a gear but nobody heard it AND he wouldn't run me again! I think that tells it all.

428 SCJ, top loader 4 speed, 4:30 Detroit locker rear end. ALL from the factory. Not to mention acid dipped fenders, hood, trunk and doors and an absence of padding and sealer on the body. I was told it was ordered for the dealership so the owners son could go racing but he and dad had a falling out! I bought it right off the lot! Never should have let that one go! Ask me about the time I spent in Germany with the Cobra! Talk about blowing Conrad's (GI nickname for Germans) mind! What a blast!

Now if I could just get "MoonShadow" to run like that! Chuck in NH

Y's guys rule!
Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.

Even My old stock '66 GTA Fairlane ran low 14s and it was a bit of a POS when I had it. Tongue

it was a fun car though.
