Upon taking a second look at exactly how the pictures themselves were posted, the picture links were put into the edit box as a Direct link rather than as IMG code.  Direct links are a nice alternative in that the posts do come up quicker by lieu of a thumbnail sized picture but still retaining access to the larger root picture.  But if wanting the picture to be larger on the site on the first view, then editing your post by substituting in the IMG code for the Direct Link will resize the pictures larger at the site level.  Or just adding some text saying to click on the pictures for a larger version is also an alternative.
