No not any racing  news just memory's of times past. Thursday before the Labor day Y Block shoot out . Wally and I auguring  are we going to pit on grass or payment  and waiting for Bob Martin to pull in even though we left down here at the same time. I had brought this up to my wife Barb, today ,one of the Y Block cooks  when I was at the Rehab center with her to day trying to get her mind off the work outs she is doing to get her back on track .   Also I miss all of  the crowd, racers and spectators that  showed up .  Glad I am not racing any more this 100* + heat I couldn't make it.        Harry 

Labor Day weekend was a great time. It was my 1st time down a track. At 21.30 I thought I was flying.

Ditto on racing in 100°F temperatures.  It’s tough on the body and just as tough on the cars.  Here in Central Texas, we are currently at 30+ consecutive days at 100°F or higher and while this is not a record by any means, it just seems to be hotter than normal.  I do miss the Y-Block Shootouts though as it’s always great to see everyone at least once a year.

It seems like yesterday and also like forever ago. These meetups were like a second round of our car clubs way back when. Further back for some of us. The people were great and were associated with a common interest, the Y-Block Ford. There was not a person in attendance that wasn't ready to share their advice and experiences. This was part of my last really active spurt in my 70's and resulted in my connection to the Rolling Bones Hot Rod Club through Ted Eaton and Keith Cornell. That took me to places I had written off like the Bonneville Salt Flats, El Mirage Lake, and the Grand National Roadster Show all multiple times. What an exciting time for me and with the Y's guys a most memorable gathering of friends that shared a long time passion of mine. Now I'm not driving anymore and don't expect to attend any more gatherings but this website has kept me in touch with some of you. Thank you for the memories, friendships and guidance over the years.

Seems like both yesterday and long ago. The Y-Block Shootout came and just the right time in my life. I still had my teenage car passion but had not done anything but local cruise nights for years. I always stayed withing 50 miles of home. I don't remember who put me in touch with the Shootout but it was probably on this site. I had already seen posts by many of you and chatted with some so it seemed to be a great chance to meet up. I'm not sure what I expected from a bunch of old Y's Guys but the result was life changing. First all Y-Blockers were not old. I was amazed to see the span of ages and the depth of interest in our favorite engines. Seeing some of the cars that were still carrying the banner was amazing and watching them take on all commers even more. When I met Ted Eaton we talked about a guy in upstate New York that was running a Y-Block at Bonneville, Keith Cornell and that I should call him. I did and Keith invited me to visit their hot rod shop. That was an introduction to a second group of car guys and off to watch the Y-Blocks run on the salt flats. So the Shootout awakened me to a new age of car adventures in my 70's. What a totally great experience! I miss all of you guys and gals.
