Thank you, That's great advice and I still have the OE valve.  If all else fails, I'll go that route.

Hi all,
I do have the shop manual and have gone over the centering problem diagnostics.  I found that I had installed the new control valve a little off from where it should be causing the ball stud to rub against opening on one side.   I still have the return to center after making a turn.  I was asked if it returned to center properly after a turn with the power steering belt removed and yes, it does.   I've asked another question to the forum if there is a difference between idler arms on a PS versus  manual steering setup.  I'm pretty certain I have the manual idler arm.

" I took the power steering valve, ram and pump equipment off of another '56 and installed it on my car.  After many years, the ram began to leak and would not seal up, even with a rebuild kit.  I purchased a new ram cylinder, hoses and control valve.  Upon installation, the car would not always return to center, especially after making a right hand turn.  I spoke with the guys at Lares where I bought the control valve and they sent me a new one.  The issue still persists"

Let me try this again as I seem to be having an internal conflict with reading comprehension and CRS..

You have a 56 FORD and decided to add PS sourced from a donor?

Did the car handle correctly immediately after the conversion?

If the car returns to center without power assist (belt removed), and not with power assist, it is most likely in the PS system.

You replaced both the control valve and cylinder with parts (aftermarket - not rebuilt)  from Lares? What was the reason(s) for the replacements? Why did Lares exchange parts, failure??

PS and MAN idler arms are different. On the new CONTROL VALVE, did they include a new ball stud kit?

ALL bushings and tie rod ends, ball joints, etc, need to be tight.

Also, with a RADIAL TIRE CONV, both CASTER and TOE has to be modified.
