What's the best way to install Starter? Pretty tight with Steering Linkage. Drop the Idler Arm? Suggestions? Almost done with My rebuild. Need Starter next. Thanks!

  

I’ve read somewhere that replacing one of the starter bolts with a stud makes installation much easier.  I plan to follow that advice next time, as I recall what a struggle the job was, especially using a new starter seal (understandably omitted by the last installer).

Dropping the idler arm and getting the steering linkage out of the way will make the installation very easy.

I used a manifold std in place of the top bolt that allowed the starter to hang from it in place while i installed the bottom bolts. It also helped keep in place the rubber seal that I glued on the day before. Turning the steering all the way to one side allows more access to stab the starter in place.

Thanks Guys. The Stud sounds like the way to go as well as dropping the Idler Arm if needed. Hadn't thought of using a Stud. Hard to balance Starter in One Hand and start a Bolt with the other. Always great answers on this Site.

  

Got it in. Funny thing I already had a Stud in My Toolbox from a previous use. Sometimes the Answer is right in front of You. Never thought about using a Stud to hang it. Great suggestion Guys. Thanks!
