I need help ,the used engine I put in my crown Victoria is not oiling on the passenger side. The drivers side is working ok and I’m running about 60 pounds of oil pressure. I took the rocker off and the wire goes down to the engine block no problem. But when I crank on the engine nothing is coming out. I never overhauled this engine and haven’t any idea if something was put in wrong or do I have to just put an overhead oiler on. I’m really stumped ,damn this feeble mind!I would appreciate any comments

Somewhere I have a tool I made to fix this problem.  I took an extra rocker arm stand, cut  in half horizontally at the shaft bore, and tapped the oil hole to suit a grease zerk.  I bolted  the half stand over the oil hole in the head, took a hand grease gun and pumped grease into the oil hole.  After 2 or 3 strokes of the gun I could feel the blockage break through.  I pumped a few more strokes with the gun,  took the tool off and put the rocker arms back on but  left the bolts at the oil hole location slightly loose, (about a half turn), started the engine and watched the grease and sludge ooze  out from  under the stand, tightened  the bolts and adjusted the valves.  The rockers now oiled.  The "tool" doesn't have to be made from a rocker stand, one could be made from a block of metal.

John brings up a good solution on the how to fix the problem if its oil galley stoppage being the problem.  Worth a try even if the engine is physically clean and free of sludge.

You do not mention how many miles are on the engine since it was last gone into.  Replacement cam bearings are softer than the originals and do fail at much earlier rates than the originals.  That failure results in the bearing babbit meshing into the center cam journal groove thus shutting off the oil flow to the top end of the engine.  It’s typically the right bank (passenger side for U.S. vehicles) that fails to get oil first.

Here’s the link to an article that goes into some of the more common reasons for oil to fail to get to the rocker arms.

Thanks guys for the great information. I bought this engine for my 56 custom line about15 years ago but used a different one instead. It was really clean and the guy I bought it from got it out of a truck the wrecking yard used in the yard. Didn’t have many miles on it supposedly. So I assumed it was clean inside but I guess I really don’t know much about it. Sure runs good and plenty of power . Doesn’t smoke either. I’m going to do the grease fitting today and see what happens. I will let you know what happens   Thanks for the help!

My shadetree fix was for typically old non-detergent oil engines with original steel shim head gaskets.  The head and block oil holes don't line up with each other and the oil has to transfer along a slot in the head gasket which is only the thickness of the gasket deep.  That's where the sludge builds up until it blocks the oil flow.  Ted's description of the cam bearing wear also weakens the oil pressure to the head/block restriction.  My redneck fix pumps the sludge out.  It won't fix the cam bearing wear.  Composition head gaskets and detergent oil eliminate this problem.

I’ve got oil!  I did what you guys suggested and it worked. I pumped grease but I thought I might have put too much in so I stopped. Put the rocker back on and started the engine  no oil but when it warmed up a bit there came the oil,I’m so great full for the help! I’m looking forward to getting it on the road when the weather gets nice.
