Anyone ran into an issue of oil coming up shaft and into distributor pickup area? I have a pertronix 3 distributor system I got from FBO systems. Noticed oil leaking from drain hole in bottom of distributor. Opened the cap and there is oil below pickup. I spoke to FBO and he said its from excessive pressure in crankcase under load. The engine rebuild has less than 10k on it. I am running a pcv system from the valley pan. FBO says the upper bearing is sealed and should not leak unless its excess pressure. I'm going to try to put a guage on the oil fill tube and power brake it to see what I get. Just wondering if anyone else has ran into this issue. Thanks

I’d be curious to see the results (sort of makes me want to revisit the complexities of the PCV system). I assume you have checked to see that the valve isn’t plugged up with sludge?

Yeah it looks like new and I'm using a 2823 pcv valve. Let me put my hands on a manometer and get some readings I will post what I find.

I checked the pressure in the crankcase at warm idle. It shows about a half inch of vacuum. I power braked it to 2000 rpm and I get about a half psi of pressure. I don't think it is that bad. I think I'm going to put my original distributor, coil and ballast resistor back on and see if it leaks. Or should I try to find a different pcv valve. Let me know what you think. I tried to post a video from my computer file but had no luck. Thanks

Seems to me your biggest change was going to a pcv system, I dont have any measurement devices to tell the difference between road draft and pvc. But with the road draft there cant be hardly any pressure build up.

I got your point. But I don't have a sealed cap on the oil filler tube it's just a breather filter where the fresh air gets pulled into the engine. So I would think the half psi of pressure would drop off to zero. My gut tells me it's a bad distributor shaft bearing, but I don't feel any play or roughness in the shaft. FBO tells me it's a sealed bearing that doesn't leak unless it has excess crankcase pressure. I think they don't want to warranty it. I'm going to give them an update and see what they say.

I put my original points style distributor system back in. I cleaned the area and I'm going to drive it about 500 miles and let you know what happens. I will post what I find.
