That’s interesting. I haven’t delved into their site in a while. But he was on another site yesterday or the day before telling someone how to do a disassembly to get the o/d unit off.

They were probably buying the parts from him so he didn't mind giving out "free" advice.  Check out his website and you will see how unhelpful he sounds.

I decided to go ahead and call VanPelt and take my chances on being chastised for asking a general old car question.  I have to admit that Mac was very friendly and helpful and fully answered my questions.  He said that the Warner Gear T-86 that is now in my Mercury is the wrong transmission and that the correct one for the car would have been the Ford 1A-7006-A.  That solves my transmission problem and I am going to install the Ford transmission in the car.
