I have a 3-speed overdrive transmission and am trying to determine whether it might be original to the car (1954 Crestline Victoria V8).

The case is cast 1A-7006-A on top and 3BP on the bottom. The overdrive tail shaft is marked R10F-1 W9 and K233. Transmission length from bellhousing flange to end of tail shaft is just shy of 28”.

I appreciate any assistance determining the original application of this transmission.

It's a Borg-Warner T-86 with R10 overdrive. If not original it's the original type for your '54. It was also used in '49 through '53 models, and as late as 1959 depending on the engine in front of it. It's a light to medium duty trans used behind 6 cylinders and V8s through 272 cid in the case of Ford.

Thanks Dobie. Do you know what the 3BP on the trans case or the W9 or K233 mean? Perhaps date codes?
