I have two sets of used 312 pistons, one standard and one .030 over. I need to clean out my garage. Are used piston of any use, or should I just send them to scrap? Butch

Should be good as long as the ring lands are in spec and wear is reasonable.

Thanks Charlie. I'll hang on to them for a while longer.

Are those 312 standard size pistons original equipment survivors? If they are I believe they will have a higher compression height compared to replacement pistons. Stay safe everyone............

While it's not likely to find a 312 block with unworn bores that could use those standard pistons, a 292 can be bored .050 oversize and use standard 312 pistons. It could also be bored .080 oversize and use the .030 312 pistons. Surely someone can use them.

If the standard size 312 pistons you have are indeed original equipment survivors, the compression height should be aprox. .025 higher than replacement pistons. That's a huge difference in regards to compression ratio. Looking at my notes, the aftermarket Silvolite pistons measured 1.302 from the upper wrist pin bore to piston top. Checking a genuine ford 312 piston, that dimension is 3.327 So, if your standard 312 pistons are still serviceable and have the higher compression height, that would be great for a street rebuild. As stated above, 292 can be bored to use them. Stay safe everyone, JEFF....................

Thanks everyone. If anybody needs these, shoot me a PM. I really need to clean up around my garage and I'll never use them. Butch

There are some corners in my garage that have been kept "socially distant" for years. I'm no sure its safe to go in there right now!
Y's guys rule! Looking for McCullouch VS57 brackets and parts. Also looking for 28 Chrysler series 72 parts. And early Hemi parts.
