I own a 56 Ford Victoria with a Ford-o-matic trans. Would appreciate any and all advice on a problem I am having. This car was completely rebuilt, but sat for many years after the rebuild. The car drives perfect and everything works. The only problem that I have is leaking from the pump seal (I believe). Should I take it in for repair or should I drive it for a few hundred miles to see if the seal will work. Or should I buy some stop leak for it? I hate to spend money on something I don't need to. I can't work on the car myself because I have no equipment and to be honest don't know a thing about an automatic trans. Please advise. Thank You

run it for a bit . if leak does not stop trans needs to come out. do not just replace the seal as in most cases drive tangs for pump ar worn, this put side load on front pump bushings so if this condition exists until repaired correctly leak will re appear in short order . hope you are lucky. if youhave the air cooled trans at least you can dismantle the torque and repair the drive tangs.

Thanks for the reply. I will drive it a bit more and see what happens. How about that stop leak stuff? Have a nice day

Stop leak is a temporary, band-aid. It might help in the short term but ultimately, you need to have the transmission resealed and possibly rebuilt.
