Took the aluminum wheels off and went back to steelies and the original small hubcaps,I need to get the Y block back in as I think it now needs the 4 speed I have laying around in the garage.

I agree with you. The alum rims do not look correct on the car. I like to see steelies painted to match the car. You car looks great! - Bob

The steels look ok, but with the car being a Fairlane (top of the line) I think I would prefer the full hubcaps. The small hubcaps are not called poverty hubcaps for nothing.

Personally like the factory full wheel covers and wide whitewalls.

It was ordered with those hubcaps and that is how I remembered the car when I was a kid so they needed to go back on,I think when my dad ordered it he scrimped on a few things so he could get the 4 bbl motor like the full hubcaps and back up lights and no other accessories other then the fresh air heater and radio and white wall tires. If I remember correctly if one wanted the 4 bbl motor a automatic trans had to be ordered and if I was the one who ordered it I would had gotten the 3 speed o/d trans and had the dealer get everything to convert to a 4 bbl and definately would have not spent 87 dollars for that AM radio or 27 dollars for white wall tires.

A lot of the early 55 Fairlanes came with the small caps, you can see them in the magazine ads for the 55 Ford. I ran my 56 Crown with small caps and trim rings. FYI only the 55s had the center ring of the cap painted red, 56 and the replacement caps had the ring painted white.

I think I have literature with a convertible that has the small caps but with whitewalls, well its not going to get them and will be easy to clean from now on. I am getting more lazy the older I get and will not miss polishing those aluminum wheels. Time to start building the 292 and finding clutch parts as the more I think about it I like the idea of a 4 speed.
