I have a couple older oil filters without the non return setup.
I was just wondering what every ones thoughts are on using them on the Yblock, would it be a bad thing?

Off of what? The stock 57 filter set up is the best choice.  You want to go back to the pre 57 version?  That will work.  After having the spin filter conversion go bad on two set ups, I went back to the original (56) filter with no problems.

They're just regular spin-ons but they don't have the non-return valves, just older stock.

You might get away with running those filters on an FE where the filter mounts in a vertical position but I would not recommend using those on an engine where the filter sits at any kind of angle like on the Y or SBF.  After having had an oil filter without a check valve on my 272, I’m not in favor of using any filter that allows the oil to drain back to the pan.  That filter was annoying in that each morning upon starting the engine, there was a noticeable delay for the oil pressure to build up as a result of the filter draining back.  Once the oil was changed again along with the correct oil filter being used, the delay in oil pressure on startups was no longer an issue.
