Went to big johns auto salvage in Williams, ca. today and found the clutch/brake pedal assembly with the "bell crank bracket",( don't know if that's what it's called). He only had three cars with the manual trans, and I found the ONLY one that had that bracket, (bolts to frame below steering box). I am a VERY happy man!!
No bell housing though so I will be looking for one soon.
I found a couple transmissions I was hoping you fellas could help me with. I'm thinking they are three speed over drives. You tell me.....

I believe it's called a z bar. It's the pivot point for the clutch. Also did you find the pivot bracket that bolts to the engine block for the z bar? They appear to be 3 speed od's. It should have T85 or T86 casting numbers. I would look for a T 85 with the R11 overdrive. The fastest way to tell is the T85 has a D shaped cover on the side where the shift arms are.

Thanks for quick reply 62bigwindow, no on the engine bracket. The car had no engine or trans in it. I felt pretty lucky to find what i did. Do you think it will be hard to locate?
As for the transmissions, one is clearly marked for a 57. I know the photos are pretty poor. Next time I go back ill look a little closer and take better pics. Do you know an approx value? Assuming they will have to be COMPLETELY gone through. Are they desirable?

The brackets are not too terribly hard to find. Did you get the little bracket that holds the return spring? It is mounted right under the steering box. I have an extra bracket and spring if you can't find one. As far as the transmission, the T85 is pretty desirable if it's an overdrive. You can get a good used one for around $400. I have a lead on two of them right now. One may end up being mine. One thing to watch for is the yoke on the trans. Try to find one that has it as the T85 OD yokes are super hard to find.

Thanks for the great information on the T85 Bigwindow. I am sure that is what both of these are. I will clean them up a bit next time I am at big johns yard and get some better pics. I do not believe these are "good" used ones having been outside for maybe 25-30 yrs. more like cores I think. I will look at the shift arm covers more closely. Can you tell me where the #s should be?
Here is a pic of what I did get. I think/hope I got it all but the two linkage rods. I believe those will be easier to get or make. All your help and advice is MOST appreciated.

Greetings to all:  Rowen, the trans in your last two pics is a Ford light duty 3 speed with R10 overdrive. Commonly used in the early 50's and is a carryover from the flat head days. Not a bad trans but it won't stand much abuse from even moderate HP.  Hope this helps. JEFF..........

Thanks Dearborn, I only just now noticed the differences in my pics and 62bigwindows. When I go next time I will continue to hunt for anything I can find that seams worth saving. He does have a few late 50s fords and mercs that I will go through. Perhaps I will find a nice trans or two. Thanks again to all you fellas so willing to help educate me. Ill continue to post what I find. Speaking of which....... I don't know if its rare or useful, 56 Ford wagon. I have more photos if there is interest.

Look in the second pic I posted. Above the fill plug are the casting numbers T85-1CA. That's what you want.
