Last November I sold and shipped a t pot carb and carb linkage to a man in Wallen,Wallen Victoria Au.It arrive in Australia ok but the postal service refused to deliver it to him..He told me that they would not give him a reason and also were going to return it to me,which they did.I have sold and shipped him quite a few parts in the last year and never had this happen.The carb has not had gas in it for years and I also had it wrapped in plastic so no fumes should have been present,the container has never been opened since I shipped it by USPS. Just wondering if anyone else on this site has had a problem like this  Carl 

If he hasnt done it yet, i suggest he contacts Aust post customs section with relevant numbers etc and ask for clarification of import rules etc, usually they are helpfull, but only needs some hard nose there to reject anything on the day.

I shipped a used C8AX deep sump oil pan and pickup for a Ford FE engine to Germany and the addressee had to jump through hoops to get the package after it arrived in Germany.  As related back to me, the x-ray simply showed a big metallic container and there were concerns about the package being destructive in nature.  For its size, the package was on the light side.  The person in which the package was addressed ended up having to go to the mail office in person and open the package in front of the officials there. 

It’s hard to imagine the Australians would rather ship the package back to the States rather than simply get the recipient to open it for them if there was a question concerning the validity of the contents.  As Bill mentions, maybe someone was simply having a bad day at the local post office.  Having shipped several items to Australia, the shipping of certain items can be picky on the U.S.A. end depending upon the values placed on certain items so I have to wonder if that was a consideration or not once it got to customs on the Australian end.

I really don't know all that was involved with the buyer and the postal service over there,he told me they refused to deliver it to him and were going to return it which they did.Dont know if he went in person to confront them or just called.When I got the box back it had a $49.00 return fee and I don't know who paid that.Hope when I ship it back it will be delivered to him

Carl: Was there a discription of the part on the original labelling?  For instance, parts coming into Canada from the USA, if not labelled as Auto Parts or Vintage Auto parts, can be held up for duty, taxes & brokerage in some cases..

Paul  yes when I shipped it I had to fill out a customs report which has a description and price paid for the parts and that is attached to the container the parts are in  Carl

Paul may have hit on a good point.
If they are labeled "Vintage" the X-Ray tech may realize they are not Vintage enough to have ever seen anything like that before and prompt a closer inspection rather than just a reject.

Something is amiss with that delivery.
I just received a large carton from Martinsville USA which contained a pair or fender skirts for my TBird so you can see it is not a small package.
It was shipped by USPS on Priority on 23rd Feb for a cost of $98.95 and arrived here in Australia this morning delivered by Australia Post.
The Customs declaration from the sender just says "Automobile Fender Skirt"
Package hasn't been opened and there were no issues with it getting here at all
