Just got this '56 and the ignition switch works and has key....But it's hanging by the wires. Don't know what's missing as I didn't take it apart. Willing to buy a complete switch or just what it takes to get it back on my dash. Think it takes a spacer, spring, bezel and nut??? but not sure. Haven't been able to come up with an exploded picture view to see what it takes. Thanks, Joe

I've never had mine apart but I had one out in a 63 F100. It had a spring that provided tension from inside the dash and the bezel locked it in place from the outside.

Thanks Carl...If I knew what I needed it might be easier to find....I'm in Falfurrias, So.Tex.78355. Haven't found many pictures on the net. Seem like most '56 owners don't post detailed pictures of their dash. My car has a heater delete type plate on the firewall so I guess it never had a heater?? Also, don't see heater controls.....Then they put in an after market stereo where the radio once was, gauges above the radio and an under the dash air cond. Has a pull switch where the dash lock should be. Have a lot to learn about this car once I get it running good. Car looks great in pictures but need a lot of work including repainting. Don't know how far I need to tear into this car. I really just want a decent running red and white '56 crown like I had back in '70 when I sold mine for $125. Maybe I should start a build thread as I have a lot of questions. Oh, and the wheels need to go.... Thanks, Joe.

Attached is a picture (lower left corner) of the components of the ignition switch. This is from a 56 TBird, but your ford should be the same. All the parts pictured are available, if not from the Ford parts suppliers they are available from the TBird parts suppliers.

That thing hanging under the dash looks to me like an aftermarket switch. You might be time and money ahead to get a replacement from Mac's or Concurs or Carpenter, etc.

You might be time and money ahead to get a replacement from Mac's or Concurs or Carpenter, etc. I will eventually get a set to open the doors/truck etc. Just want to hang this one on the dash if possible. The key now operates the ignition and the other key opens the trunk and they look like Ford keys. Trunk key fits in the door lock, but door lock seems to operate but very sluggish and doesn't open completely. Like I say, will eventually replace all when we start the paint job on the car. Thanks, Joe.

The trunk key looks right, but I don't see anything there that looks right for a pre '65 Ford Ignition. Those have a flat surface on the bottom and the cuts/grooves only on the top.

I now see what you guys see...after doing more research, I realized that it wasn't an original ignition switch, so I'll bite the bullet and order a new switch and door locks and keys to match....found everything with C & G early ford part. Guess this is all I need....Thanks for all your help..Joe.
