For those who may not know, Mick had his first stroke Monday September 2nd, just after returning from (and winning on Sunday) the Y-Block shootout. It affected his speech and control of his right side. Started physio and was making progress, then the second stroke hit on the 10th. This one hit him much harder. Speech very garbled, right side worse, eyes closed most of the time. Yesterday morning he had a third...this one affecting his left side. Prognosis is not very good.

I had taken in copies of all the best wishes that were posted. I know he was smiling when I read them to him. Thanks guys, for that.

Sorry to hear of his trouble. I met him at Columbus two years ago and enjoyed talking to him. He has done a beautiful job with that '57 Bird. Was excited by the news of a fellow Canadian doing well at this years shootout. Please wish him good luck with his situation, Barry from Winnipeg.

Tom, Any more news and where is he in the hospital at, Windsor?
By Tom Ion - 11 Years Ago
Frank: Went to see Mick today. Had a great visit. His son was there with an iPad so Mick was able to see Charlies video of him in the winners circle getting his trophy. Not a dry eye in that room! Anyway, Mick is in the hospital in Windsor. Not much can be done medically, so he will soon be sent to rehab. His wife Carol is doing simply amazing, but is even less computer savvy than Mick. Good 'ol mail service still works...even up here in cold country.

Mick got some pictures sent from Jerry yesterday...the doctor's news was not so great, but those pictures made up for it. He has the best attitude for his challenges...a positive one!

Tom:

Thank you for the update, and a little bright spot in his progress. It is great to hear that he is alert and aware of what if going on around him. Tell him we continue to pray for him. I hope the rehab goes well.

Like so many others I am pulling for Mick put the stroke demons about 3 lengths behind soon.

Hello all, quick update. Mick is now in a rehab hospital. He had a short stint of the "why did this happen to me" attitude, but is past that now and on to the really hard part...physical therapy. He shows improvement every time I visit. He can't handle a laptop yet, so don't expect any reply's, but I know he enjoys when they are read to him. He especially likes mail...something to hold.

Good to hear Mickey is coming along!!!! Smile
By Tom Ion - 10 Years Ago
Hey all, sorry I haven't been very good at keeping everyone up to date on Mick's status. His spirits are still strong, and he is coming along slow but sure. He never was much of a computer guy and now is even less so. You can see a short video of him on YouTube. Just search "Mickey walking rehab". I have been taking him to both Physio and Occupational therapy 3 times per week. He will be selling some of his projects, which I will post in the classifieds...yes his race 'bird as well. Will we make it to Columbus this year...hmmmm does not look too good. He would love to hear from you, address is in a post up above.

Tom:

Thanks for the update.  I continue to keep him in my prayers.  I wish him a full recovery, though I realize it will not be a fast recovery.  Keep the faith, Mickey.

Slow and steady's the name of the game. We all wish Mickey all the best and a good recovery. He's lucky to have a friend like you. Chuck

Glad to hear Mickey is doing better and sad to hear that he will be selling off his T-Bird! I am glad Mickey took the International Prize money I put up last year at Columbus! I was hoping I could meet up with my fellow Canadians again down at Columbus!
If I can ever make my way down to Windsor, maybe we can meet up for a "Timmies"!!!  Take care Mickey and get better soon!!!!!
