Where can I buy the small tool I need to removed the ignition switch bezel on my 1956 Ford Fairlane?  I couldn't find it in the Dennis Carpenter online catalog.  Thanks, Ron

What worked on my 57 was a small pair of flat end Snap Ring Pliers.

Yes what Paul said or notch down the end of a small piece of pipe that fits.

I bought one from Larry's. It has a tool on each end.  One for the light switch (others too) and the one for the ignition. Grabbed it with vicegrips to make it easy to use.

I just changed out my ignition switch. Bought a replacement made by Standard Parts at a local parts store. "Appeared" to be the same but not true. After much difficulty trying to get front bezel in I took all the wires off again and really looked at the original and the new one. After close examination they were not idenitical but with a small grinder I was able to remove a small section of the new one and it worked fine off the car. Putting it in the car was another story. No matter how hard I pushed in on the spring I could not get the bezel nut to go on. Finally I slightly chamfered the 2 tabs on the bezel and it went right together. The lock mechanism changed easily once I figured out it needed to be on "start" to come out.

Also my switches "acc" stud was not very long and I had to extend it with a 3/8" long piece of 1/4" tubing I tapped for a 10-32 then added a lengthof 10/32 all thread......Good Luck

In 40 yrs of working on these cars have never needed any tools to remove ig bezel, are you aware you need to push switch forward from behind dash and this allows bezel to rotate easily. try it and see if that helps.Smile
