Will Lincoln Versailles front spindles fit the 57 Tbird without reaming? I am using 15 inch aftermarket wheels so caliper fit should be okay. I also came across the bushings used for Granada/Monarch spindles for Mustang/Cougar. Don't know if they will fit our range of Ford/Tbirds.

I have been told that reaming is not required on the Versailles spindles.

That is correct Paul. The Versailles used a bigger lower ball joint than the Granada even though the spindle itself is identical to the Granada one.No reaming required.

What years Versales work?

To add to what these guys are saying - none of the funny little bushing inserts you mentioned will be required either - the ball joint pin is a direct fit into the lower mount of the Lincoln steering knuckle.

The kits listed on ebay would also work on your Mercury.I dont know that its a bad price giving you everything including spindles ready to install.I think one listing claims they are "New' spindles as opposed to used but could I be wrong about that. You are correct about "no pull"to the sides.I can pretty well take my hands(loosely of course)off the wheel and hit the brakes hard and not see the wheel move at all.

A member of FordFE.com chased down the Versailles spindle part numbers:
Right D7DY 3105A
Left D7DY 3106A

Did they give you a source where they can be bought at a reasonable price?By the way those look like casting #'s as opposed to Ford part #'s.

I Googled the part numbers and they come up as correct. His reference is a Canadian Mitchell Collision Estimate Guide. Sorry to say, no source. I think they are fairly scarce these days. Need to troll the Pick and Pulls to have any luck.

While the Versailles spindles are the prize - many disc brake knuckles will do the job - however, they will require the re-reaming of the lower ball joint taper to the "big pin" size. You can use the Ford Mustang spindles '71 to '73 - Mercury Comet - Ford Maverick - the V8 small cars after '71 with five on 4-1/2 lug hubs are the ones that do the job. The differences between them turns out to be the taper size used on the tie rod ends. They gradually work up to the size used on the Granada and Monarch. The lathe center on the backside of the upright lines up with the wheel center - and the center you find on the big cars - a Galaxie for instance - has that center down on the ball joint lug which results in holding the car up higher off the ground. The small car knuckle lowers the car - moves the caliper mounting position away from the wheel rim.
