After a lot of seesawing back and forth between yblocks, clevelands, fe, and mod motors, I have gotten my act together, and have bought a 312. I will be building it and putting it and a toploader 4 speed into my 57 Custom. In the interim, I will be picking up running 292 to put in for now, so that hopefully, by Columbus 2012, I can come play. That is the current plan. I'll be upgrading driveline pieces as I go, hopefully ending up with a high 12-low 13 sec car...we'll see. Thanks for providing a wealth of y information on this site...

I can't wait to see your Y-Block build. Lots of help from this site around here. With your performance experience you oughtto make one really go. My 57 sedan with the 352 stroker-Y and the VR57 Blower is way more fun to drive than my 460 t-bird or wifes cj mach1. Of course I have 5 times the money and 10 times the time invested the Y. But I really love how it runs. It makes me smile everytime I drive it.

You can guarantee Pat, that I will be asking about some things...I know that engines are primarily a glorified air pump, but the y is its own beast, and I am still learning the stuff to use. I believe I can reach the goal I have set with it, pretty conservative I think. My 57 has a lot of Crites body parts plus an ancient set if AI glass fenders, so it should come in pretty light, I'm aiming for around 3300-3400 lbs or so, preferrably less, but I'm trying to be realistic. I want to be able to run low 13s with it, so about 300-325 hp should get me close, with a good set of slicks. My 57 should be in paint this summer some time, then I'll get it wired plumbed and fired up. I hope to get the upholstery done over the winter. Should be identical to Dunc's old 57Custom, Colonial white with gray inside. I had planned on red inside, and still may do that, but gray is just more simple, maybe easier to keep looking new too...
Plan to use around 10.5 or 11:1 compression...is that too much for non-posted G heads or should I just loom for some 113s? I plan to use probe pistons and the aftetmarket rods in the 312...the 292 will just be a temporary runner, mostly stock, maybe a cruiser (lumpy) cam, but the 312 I want to be a brute. I make no bones about how much Wally's 56 has impressed me...that car is awesome....
