I"m looking for a 1955 Mercury teapot carb. for a 292 cu. in engine. Does anybody know what number carb. I need? Does anybody know where I can find either re-buildable or re-build one! I have a auto tranny. I think the carb I need is either a B5A-9510-R or B5A-9510-N?

I'm also looking for a oil pickup tube for a front sump oil pan. tube that runs from oil pan sump to oil pump.

Rovison: Some Merc's may also have come with Carter carbs. (model?) However, I may be incorrect on that info. Someone will confirm or correct me..

Do everything you can to keep from using the teapot. Like find a 56 4bbl intake and a Carter WCFB, much better set up but only my 2 cents worth. If you are a purist and want to stay totally original teapot it is. As the man said in 56 they used Carters, there is a reason for it.

I wonder how the Hoosier Hurricane runs so well useing those old t pots if they are such a bad carb.  Carl

My teapot runs pretty darn good on my car as well.   The key is a fresh kit everyonce and awhile.  I do have an issue with heat soak with todays pump gas on a hot day after a hard drive.

I have a complete intake, carb, and aircleaner set-up off a '55 T-Bird that is for sale if anyone is looking for all correct stuff.

Hi, I was surprised with your posting. What kind of problems are there with a 55 Merc. teapot. The one I'm going to use is a ECK 9510-T. never used one before.  thanks, Tom

If everything is in good working order the teapots work fine. I've had good luck with them over the years, only thing I didn't like was they were down on power compared to the later carbs. John's car is supercharged and so is Franks, both run teapots and run great! To step up with a teapot go to the Lincoln 390 cfms versus 370 cfms from the Ford or Mercury and gain some extra ponies. The Church Brothers 55 Ford sedan runs great with a teapot as well. I actually Like the teapot better than the carter, to me the holley has always been easier to tune including the teapot which is alittle more diffcult than the later 4150s & 4160s.

Plus, didn't they only use teapots in 57 on the 2-4 and supercharged cars?

Tom,

Just take your time and do it right, they work fine when they're right. If you have any problems just ask. Several guys on this site (not me) have 30 or 40 years of experience with these carbs. You'll get answers if you ask.
