Are new Mushroom lifters flat or convex ?  Work with some of these high tec  coatings , wondering could this be another upgrade ?

The tappet faces are convex, not flat.

Perfect Ted,
I knew you would know ! Have you tried any of the lifter coatings , as I see on NASCAR valve train parts . Most cams are not coated , any of the newer solid lifters , after periods of high rpms , show no wear at all either . Next time in Mooresville ,NC , I may take set , and have coated .

Mongo are you talking about dlc type coatings, or additive like cerakote slick coatings. went to school in mooresville and missed access to a lot of cool tricks now that i actually am able to afford some of them. i had a classmate most of a carbon fiber go cart at the shop he worked at.

The Reason they are convex is so they will rotate on Cam Lobe as the Engine is running. No rotation will wear out Lifters in very quick order.

The Topline Hylift Johnson Y-block lifters, which are sold by Isky, Clay Smith, etc., and can be purchased directly from Topline, have a temporary protective coating that prevents accelerated wear during break-in.

Do you know what radius they are Ted?

The only lifters that do not wear are Trend Tool Steel lifters, however they are not made any more. I bought all that they had left.

Should be 50-52”radius.

If the Trend lifters don't wear, they must be harder than the cast, flat-tappet-cam lobes. With that being the case, I would think that they must cause accelerated wear of the lobes.

Dan Jessup wanted to buy Trend lifters so that he could swap cams without having to replace the lifters. I never heard back from him to confirm that he was able to get the Trend lifters before they were gone.

I assume the lifters can be reground to that radius? Do you know if they are hard all the way through, or case hardened? They are from a C2AE block.
