The speedometer in my 55 has the needle bottomed out at about 7 mph. I drove my car for the first time after finally getting on the road. What do I need to do to fix it without damaging anything? I’ve thought about trying to bend the needle but I hope there’s a better way to fix it the right way. Has anyone ever had this problem and how did you fix it?

Remove the entire assembly and inspect it. I have some information on my website, HotRodReverend.com. Too many photos and videos to post here.

Here is a link to get you started.

Thanks Dan for the info, I forgot about you and the great articles you wrote on rebuilding your 55.i had the speedometer out before I painted everything but forgot to fix that needle. I will take the assembly out this winter when I have the time. I did put in a different cable after cleaning and lubricating and it works great even though the needle is on about 8 miles an hour when stopped. Thanks again ,the pictures are very good .

How are the readings otherwise?  Is it fairly accurate at different speeds.  You can check it with a GPS.  There are small GPS speedos that you can test it with.  Look on ebay.
