I have a chance to buy a factory duel quad intake manifold, how much would this be worth? Haven’t saw it up close but pics look like it’s pretty good shape

Manifold by itself, $250-500 depending on how badly you want it and its condition.  If it is really clean/ no welds/no cracks/exhaust crossover tubes not burned out and you need it for a restoration, maybe $600.00.  JMO, but a new Mummert or Blue Thunder will run much better and be so much easier to tune.  I have all three, so I think I can speak from experience.  Joe-JDC

My brother told me it was on Craigslist so I looked it up and it’s an early bird aluminum dual quad intake that looks really good. They want $250 for it. I will probably pass on it but a good buy for someone

I reminder on factory dual quads  - the valley plan is special with a depressed center.

Multiple carbs look cool, especially with an exposed engine compartment, but that's not a plus for those of us who run with a full hood that's almost always closed. I'll stick with a single 4-barrel on my Eaton-modified ECZ-B intake.

There were two different factory manifolds available for the Ford Y.  The first was the 1956 version with casting number EDB-C which were available as an over-the-counter part and not factory installed on vehicles.  The second version was the 1957 version with casting number ECG-D and these could be found factory installed on ‘E’ code cars, station wagons, Rancheros, and Thunderbirds.  Most of the ’57 versions had the casting date at the top of the manifold in the thermostat cavity area.  Here’s a link to a past thread on this site to some of the casting dates for the ECG-D manifold.

Thanks Ted for the information, after trying for an hour to send the ad on Craigslist to the forum I gave up. Here is the ad address. “Spokane Craigslist auto parts 312/yblock parts” Spokane is about 250 miles away. I would like to drive there and buy the parts but after 50 years of marriage I don’t like the thought of sleeping in my garage with the dog so maybe someone else would like to buy the parts.

I use to buy and repair factory 2x4 manifolds (57s) most were cracked underneath. I would pay $100 to $125 and sell them for $200 to $250. The welds didn't show when the manifold was installed.

there are no doubt manifolds around today that you repaired , when i need something repaired i take it to my son to get it welded right or to my brother in law that is a really good machinist lol

Ted - In the link you say "The best information I have is that there were ~5500 ECG-D 2X4 dual intakes made for the 1957 model year."
Would you kindly explain what the source of that information is? I've heard many say there is no way to even estimate the total number of E-code cars produced.
Thanks.

That number is based on researching the invoices at Schmeller Aluminum foundry as that was the company originally casting the dual quad intake manifold for FoMoCo.  Here’s an older link regarding on the subject.

Also keep in mind that intakes produced probably does not equal E code cars produced.

But does it mean there were no more than 5500 E-code cars total, T'bird and passenger cars included?
Seems to depend on the reliability of the 5500 number and the degree of certainty there were no other suppliers of the 2x4 intake.

Whatever the number of intakes produced is, cars produced must be less than or equal to that number.

While it has been confirmed that there were ~5500 1957 ECG-D dual quad intakes actually cast, it can be assumed that a given number of those manifolds did not go on the cars but instead were for over-the-counter sales.  It would be a stretch to think that 10% of those manifolds were for over-the-counter sales but with no documentation on either the number of cars actually equipped with dual quads or the number that went to parts counter sales, then 4950-5000 cars actually being factory equipped with dual quads would be a starting estimate.

Thank you, Ted. If we trust the estimates that there were approximately 1400-1500 E-code T'birds, that means roughly 3500 E-code passenger cars. Since I happen to own one, I've always sought to quantify its rarity. This may be as close as I'll ever get.

Ted - One quick follow-up: Who possesses or has counted the ~5500 invoices you mention?

That information looks to have come from Dennis K about 14 yrs ago.  Here’s the link to that reference.

Kultulz - Just to clarify, the invoices in question here are Schmeller Aluminum Foundry invoices for the dual quad intakes cast for the 270 HP engines.
