Connecting Rod, Problem and Question

I was trying to replace my rod bolts with ARP bolts.  The ARP bolt head is a teensy bit larger than the stock bolts and I cannot get the head to seat down on the proper surface.  Tried tapping with light hammer and tightening nut.  I am not going to grind the head of the bolt, use a 3 lb hammer, or fully torque the nut.  I'll stick with the stock bolts instead.  Any suggestions?

Part II.  The rods have an oil hole in the small end offset to one side.  I assume they have to be oriented in a specific direction.  The directions in the book (shown below) make no sense to me.  Can some one give me better directions?

The oil hole in the top side of the rod faces the camshaft.  By the same token, the bearing tangs should be facing down or to the outside of the engine while the bearing itself will be away from the filet or radius side of the journal.  One side of the rod has a larger radius or angle cut on it and that side is expected to be at the journal edge and not next to the other connecting rod.  All these items do need to be correct when the engine is being reassembled.

Grinding or using a belt sander is necessary on some of the ARP connecting rod bolt heads when using EBU rods.  Here’s a link to past thread covering that subject.http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/FindPost149651.aspx
 
Also be aware that anytime rod bolts are removed and reinstalled whether they are the originals or new bolts, the big ends of the rods must be checked for trueness.  99 times out of 100 you’ll find that the rods will need to be reconditioned when the bolts have been removed and reinstalled.  Here are a couple more links covering that.

By saying the upper oil hole faces the camshaft, does this mean the rods on the right and left bank are facing opposite directions?

With the engine upside down on the engine stand, all the rod bearing tangs should face toward the outside.
