Camshafts were the same for the 1957 Ford and Mercury 312.

Were the 1.54 rockers really 1.54? Most say not.

One factor that affects the rocker ratio is the valve train geometry. The rocker arm shafts being higher or lower than ideal has the net effect of reducing the valve lift which results in a reduced rocker ratio. Another factor is where the adjuster rests within the rocker arm when the tappet clearance is properly adjusted. Push rod length is the determining factor for that. Here are some ratio numbers from a past article on the subject originally published in The Y-Block Magazine.
