What is the diameter of a 56 Fairlane steering column?

Outside diameter of the column tube is 1 1/2" . I still have a piece on my bench that I cut out when I did my Electric Power steering conversion

It fits perfectly  in a 1 1/2" electrical conduit coupler that I used to connect it to the EPAS motor housing.

I'm looking at the Lokar cable column shift setup so I can use the Rex headers with an automatic. On another subject I've been looking at putting electric power steering in my roadster. I plan to use the Toyota box since it doesn't require the computer to work. I'm curious about mounting the electric unit to my Ididit column. Did it require brackets to hold it or just modifying the current column to insert the power unit? Pictures would be great? Was this covered in the Y-Block Magazine and if so in what installment?

FWIW the outside dimension on 1 1/2" EMT is "1.740 inches". Might be close enough to work, and that's a "nominal" dimension. The interior is what defines conduit size, and the tolerances aren't "machinist" quality. I've run enough to know. Damn hard to use it for exhaust when you're a kid digging in the scrap bin.

Miker, You are right, I did not use 1 1/2 EMT coupler it was 1 1/4",  As luck would have it the Yarus/Prius motor also has a 1 1/2 tube on the input side so the EMY coupling mated them with no problem

MoonShadow           Here is a link from my installation, it was with a stock column I do not know hao to adapt the Ididit colunm
