Is there a later model automatic such as a C-6 that will fit a 368?
By darrell - 7 Years Ago
no for the c6 but you should be able to use an fmx.

There is no direct bolt-on other than the TURBO-DRIVE (FORD-O-MATIC derivative) or the earlier HYDRA-MATIC 4/S Direct. Anything else will require an adapter.

the fmx is an easy swap as long as you have the bell torque converter and flywheel from 55 to 57.use the front pump from the l368 on the fmx and drill out 2 top bolt holes and your in.you need the long fmx from an ltd or truck as the smaller cars have a short tailshaft.john has one in his 57 ford.

... hmmph ...

Interesting, and had no idea. So a FMX main case will go to a LYB TURBO-DRIVE bell with a front pump modification.

What holes have to be drilled? Is there any TECH INFO on this?

i had an fmx in my last 56 ford.looking at a lincoln transmission i can see no difference between it and a mercury trans.the case looks the same size but i havent done it myself.im sure someone on here has.

OK. When we talk FMX, we are describing the 1968/ iron main case trans, right?
By darrell - 7 Years Ago
yes

Here's an article about adapting an FMX.

If you search the forum for FMX and user name Hoosier Hurricane, you'll probably find more buried in the forum.

THANX! Both Darrel and Charlie.

I was aware of the FYB FMX retro but it didn't dawn on me about the possibility of the LYB TURBO-DRIVE retro-fit.
