On the rear deck is the attachment plates for the Tbird tops. WHICH hole is used for the convertible top? Is it the holes closest to the windshield or the ones closest to the trunk lid? I cant seem to get my convertible top midpoint hinge to flatten out so that it doesn't hit my head when I get in. Hope this makes sense.

The front holes are used for the folding top. Just checked my 56.

I’ve got a late frame on a 55, also front holes, with the early style hold down handles in back. If what you’re referring to on the top frame is what I think, mine’s the same way. The weather strip shows it not quite closing. I’ve had two sets of vinyl or fabric, both the same way. You can just see it under my thumb.

Ford added a link in the area of that pivot to help remove the sag on the '56 and '57 tops. The tension on the two straps running from the rear bow to the front bow needs to be sufficient to help support the top also. The '55 tops were never the best anyway.

I think the hinge sag is for 2reasons. Im in the rear hole (wrong) and it is pulling the top to the rear, secondly the hinge sag is excessive anyway. Thanks for your reply.

Exactly where my sagging hinge is but it sags a lot more. Also, I'm in the rear most hole which is pulling the top rearward. Gonna move it to the front hole. Thanks for the reply.

In 56 Ford changed the top inserting the new brace.
