Guys
On my 56 Ford Fairlane there is a vacuum cannister mounted next to the drivers' side air vent cable connection inside the engine compartment. It is mounted with 2 screws thru the fender well area
The cannister is about the size of 2 tuna cans connected together. It has a vacuum connection on one side with a fitting that will accept an 1/8" line.
I am sure that this is a factory part, but because so much of the car I have is more of a project, not much of anything is/was connected. It must be something for the vacuum wipers, but the engine has a dual diaphram fuel pump on it already.
I also cannot find any reference to this thing in the service manual.
Any help would really be appreciated.

Yes the "can" is factory, but not used at all assembly plants, I've seen them on Somerville cars, but not on Marwar cars. I guess it rains harder in Mass. than it does in New Jersey. It's purpose is to help with the wipers.

Do you remember how it was hooked up?
Maybe a T fitting before entering the firewall?
