I have a 56 Victoria with a 312 hooked to the three speed transmission with overdrive. The 312 sports a Teapot. The car originally had a 292 with an automatic. My throttle linkage is a one piece shaft directly from the carburetor to the firewall mounted bellcrank. Trouble is when the accelerator is depressed the bellcrank arm hits the firewall before the carburetor fully opens. I’m told this is correct (linkage wise) but why then won’t it fully actuate the carburetor?

I had the same problem you need to change the linkage I think my bell crank was the problem it was a while ago and my memory is not that good It should NOT hit the fire wall did it hit before the swap?

I bought the car with the 312. The swap had already been made. When you say I need to change the bellcrank can you remember what you did? I can’t find anything that would point to a different bellcrank other than possibly using the double bellcrank system used for automatics. And again, folks are telling me that is not necessary. Very frustrating.

The o/d cars came from the factory with a straight piece of linkage that was adjustable in length and was spring loaded . It was made like that so at wide open throttle you could push the pedal farther to operate the kick down switch.

Is it possible that the rod from the linkage to the carb is too long? They usually are adjustable

I don't know if this will help you or not. Here is a photo of the throttle linkage in my 1955 TBird w. OD. The car came with a Teapot. It's been swapped for a Holley. The linkage is stock.

What you are showing is linkage I don’t have. Very curious. Thank you. It looks like the same bracket used for automatics without the step down linkage.
