Just curious, can the ram exhaust manifolds be flipped around so the exhaust outlet points up ? Thanks in advance.

Interesting question.   You gonna put stacks through the hood?   All the bolts are in a straight line,  but you'd have to test fit it to clear everything else.   What engine are you working on?   If its a Lincoln Y,  then no you can't.    They use an up/down pattern, where as the Ford Y uses a straight line across.   Here's a pic of some Lincoln rams.

Maybe.  The manifold bolt holes are not directly inline, so you will probably have to oval some of the mounting holes in order to mount them.  You will also want to do that in a way  that keeps the ports in good alignment.

I have a ‘57 ford 292. I don’t have the ram exhaust manifolds but, looking at them made me wonder if they can be flipped to do exactly that: pipes straight up. I also don’t have a hood to worry about since it’s a rat rod.
Thank you

I don't think the outlet flange will be parallel with the ground, as machined from the factory but it is easy enough to have pipes bent to that they point straight up.

You may have interference with the spark plugs.

Good thought.  It probably won't work because of that.

Curious, Will the ram horn manifolds clear the steering gearbox in a 55/56 car chassis? I have changed to a Borgman P/S gearbox and there’s not much room. I’m looking at building headers at this point.

Thanks

I don't know about the gear box but the motor mounts will be a problem.

Good to know... Thanks

Unfortunately, the Y-Blk rams horns were intended for truck use only.  They don't fit as is in any mid 50s Ford car chassis. I've thought in the past that someone should try to reconfigure the casting so that the outlet angle & flange setup could be made to fit in cars, because in exhaust system testing the rams horns were a good performers..

I had to use the Rams Horns on my 37 Coupe project and posted some pictures a few years back on how I maneuvered around the motor mounts. The "exhaust doughnut" is a true 2" radius all the way around so it should flow pretty well. Here are the pictures I posted a few years back;

I like that Rono. Clean and very doable around the motor mount. Do you remember how far off the head they are on the left rear port?

I'll check that out and get back to you

Kev;
I measure the header to be about 3" out from the head on the driver's side rear exhaust port. Sorry it took so long to get back to you, the car was up on my lift.

No problem. Well 3 inches will hit the steering gear. So I'm back to building headers it looks like..

Thanks..

Well a bit of an update to my upside down ram exhaust manifold idea. Yes, they WILL interfere with the spark plugs as suggested. Also, the angle of the output of the manifold will put the piping very close or on the valve cover. A bit of creative welding and pipe work may get away from it tho. But, if there’s a will there’s a way. A 1” spacer may resolve the issue. Just, is it worth it ????
Thanks for all the help.

I've wondered if the drivers side outlet could be cut and angled more towards the block to clear the steering box. Never really checked it out but as I remember there is a little room there.
