Is it possible that happened when the cam and lifters were broken? Slow start so you must have some good things coming this season. Here's hoping.

Block looked ok when cam failed but maybe you hit the nail.
We noticed low oil pressure after one easy pull (1.7bar/7000rpm) and reason was dropped cam bearing because cracked block.



...looks now like this season was this short...

Here is more pics about our long lasted ECG block and parts. Cam bearing #2 dropped once last year at Kalajoki airfield track and similar oil pressure drop was there. Now three middle mains are cracked but caps are still ok and #4 cam bearing is out. Even old blocks are very hard to destroy. And we have additional oil holes at the valley too. No signs of cracks there. Our parts are C1TE steel crankshaft, ECG block, C0AE heads, Schneider custom camshaft, 6.5" rods from Callies and SRP scrub 305 sprint car pistons. So, nothing very special... Best ET with this combo has been that 8.134 last year and last run with this block was 9.4 accelerating to 1/8 mile and then crank trigger sensor broke and engine shut down coasting to end at only 177 km/h. At the 1/8 mile speed was 197 km/h. 60" was 1.307 so that was not even close to our best. And the current driver Aku Salo did only his second pass with the car as his first pass was easy 12.4 run... This season has gone so wrong from the beginning... And continues... Now we dig one spare C2AE block under the table and start all over again. Three races to do this year still. Kalajoki airfield is the next and that is only 1/8 mile track and then two full 1/4 mile races to better our ET this year.

Are you using any kind of main bearing support?  I’ve found that using a main support girdle tends to prolong block life in high horsepower applications (500+ HP).  With the 640HP Y sitting here, I’m using four bolt mains similar to what’s being used on the 427 Fords.  As the horsepower numbers go up, the rotating assembly balancing aspects also become more critical.  I add a given amount of ‘overbalance’ for blown applications.  Here are pictures of both the main girdle and the four bolt main setup.

No supports. Should be. Balancing must be good because engine has lasted that long.

Actually there was stock main bolts in that last dyno session in last year. Smile

Those girdle and four bolt bolt setup looks nice.
