Larry.  Looking good.  I trust you’re not using any Thunderbolt axles.  LOL.
By Larry Short - 7 Years Ago
Ted,
Man some guys really know how to rub it in !  No Thunderbolt axels, it has a 1950s Lincoln rear-end.

That is a beautiful car Larry.  The matte black finish plus shiny parts create a great look.  Also the FI, mag, and T;Bird valve covers make for an eye popping combo.
By MoonShadow - 7 Years Ago
The odd thing is that while the 9" Ford is the go to axle for so many race cars today back in the 50's and 60's we were all looking for BOP(Buick, Olds, Pontiac) rears. But they were tough for the time.

Thanks Guys, glad you like it. Don't know why they put a 56 Lincoln rear in it, guess they had one laying around. I still need to finish lettering it and put a few period correct decals.Larry

That's the chassis you had a Columbus a few years back isn't it? Didn't notice it came with the rear end. I'm not familiar with the early Lincoln rear end. Are they beefy? I know the 49 to 56 Ford/Mercury's are prone to axle breakage.
By Larry Short - 7 Years Ago
Yes it's the one I had in Columbus . The rear end was in it when I got it. Don't know much about it my self. First thought it was a Dana.
One of the guys at Columbus that year told me it was the Lincoln. Not worried about the axel breaking as much as the ring gear, you set right over it. Larry

I'm sure axles can be ordered from Moser, Strange, etc, if need be.  A differential or spool is probably the hard thing to find.

Looks great.
By MoonShadow - 7 Years Ago
I would want a super metal cover/shield over the rear end. Titanium maybe! Smile

Very nice! Love it.

Unless your planning on a hard launch I would not worry too much. The old days of the hard tires and high gear only put on the best shows. The 56 Lincoln weighed close to #3500 and should handle it. The 49-56 Olds did OK and they were a lot different than 57 up.

Larry,
Hope to see you run at the meltdown, the dragster engine is totally awesome! totally different engine than the one in the 56?

Wow! That thing ROCKS! What fuel are you using? Congrats about job well done. Now you just have to line it up with Timmys "Elwood" at Eagle Field some day...http://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/589b35ce-1dda-4e83-a361-5f2d.jpg

Thanks, I'm just running VP 116 racing fuel. I need to get the Hilborn fine-tuned a little better.  Big Daddy Garlits is coming to Keystone Raceway later this year and we're trying to set up a chance to line up with him for some fun. Larry

My friend Jim and I are putting the White T-Bird Hunting (Vic) tuneup on the Dragster getting ready for the Meltdown Drags. Seriously been working hard to get the Dragster ready for this summers Y Block meets. Should be making the first pass down the strip soon.

Larry that is sounding like it is ready to rock and roll. Will we see it at Norwalk? I still have the nitrous set up to fall back on if needed, I sure do miss that stuff.

Why is fuel spraying out of the injectors when you rev the engine? That doesn't seem right.
By Larry Short - 7 Years Ago
Yes I saw that too. ( I think Vic snuck in the garage late night and sabotage the motor !)  I'm checking thinks out, valve to tight, spring floating, valve seat , head gasket, not sure?  Really, I wanted to give the scrubys' we will be racing a little help and only run the Y Block on 6 cylinders ! I just picked up a new project. Heart Attack 3 ? Not sure about motor combination yet, but could be a Y block for sure . Actually picked up two new projects . A 48 Anglia and a 49 Thames . Larry Short

That is just un-burned nitro shooting out the zoomies
