I hope some one can tell me the original application, as I would like to find another like it. I know that the one baffle in it was added by someone and is not stock, or at least it looks like it was added.  any help would be appreciated. I have other rear sump pans, but they all have a  "double step " where this one is a single step.  thanks, -----Jimhttp://forums.y-blocksforever.com/uploads/images/bb365d97-cf9b-403d-9926-a693.jpg

Hmmmmm...  As you say, a baffle has been added.  I believe that it is Ford '55-'57 T-Bird only y-block rear sump oil pan.  Smile

Well, the pickup truck pan on my 32 has a small second step. And while that looks like a bird pan, I think it's too deep in front. The birds still in off site winter storage so I can't be sure. Didn't they make some heavier truck pans that held more oil, for like a 1.5 ton or up? Or stationary engines. I don't know what the marine pan looked like, but that's another possibility.

It looks like the heavy duty truck pan I have, but hard to tell without getting a measurement on the sump depth  Carl

The pan is for 55/57 T-Bird.  Rear sump, rear angled drain plug---T-Bird.  Can be used on other engines.

AH!  I'm wrong!  Miker and Carl know better.  Miker's right.  -It's too deep on the front end to be a 'Bird pan.  Me thinks the HotRod Reverend had one just like this for sale a hundred years ago or so.  IF I'm right, they hold more oil (an extra quart?) than the 'Bird, passenger car, and standard rear sump truck oil pan.

Thanks for catching my error!

I think Thundercat has what you're looking for.  Click the eBay link below to see the one Miker was describing with the step in the bottom.

Thundercat, are you interested in selling your oil pan ? I have been thinking of trying to find another one. I have to go through my parts that I have stashed at my brothers place to see if I have another one.   If I do not I may be interested in yours if it is for sale. how bad is the rust on the pan?
By thundercat - 9 Years Ago
I may be interested in selling..  I just disassembled 2 weeks ago and have not cleaned up yet. I have to wait til snow goes away to pressure wash outside.
lots of parts to clean as soon as Spring arrives. I used a Tbird pan on my 32 Ford  that was mint if I had had something like this I wouldn't have used it.. I didn't think a pickup was deep enough and was in a rush to get running and
didn't take time to make a pan.. The 63 Super Duty was original std-std crank with 3-63 date on ford bearings   Standard bore cylinders in a dump truck so I'm pretty sure its original pan also..Looks like never apart..   Regards  Steve

Thanks  for the info Ted, I appreciate it. now that I know what I am looking for, my search may be a little easier.  Now I just have to try and find one that is not rusty and not dented.

i have a truck engine in my 47 mercf47,the pan is similer in apearance ,but has a door that opens when going up a hill allowing more oil to pump, the door closes when stoping radicley or going down a steep hill.years ago had 2 frends with ford trucks .1 56 1962,both had the light come on (low oil pressure) when stoping or starting fast. the fix was instaling the heavey truck flaper
