Greg Dietrich wins the shootout..... AGAIN.. this time over Frank Rice.
In other news.. Harry Hutton's new motor powers his 60 Merc to 12.90's Harry is smiling
I collected my first 9 sec time slip in the WarBird with a best of 9.94 133 mph
Sunday brackets and Y Block shootout were rained out..
There is more news but that is all I can recall for now I think we had 20 cars in the group. Charlie took a lot of pictures and video so he can fill in the details.

Paul:
Car count was way down this year, on Friday there were more Y cars than all the rest. Not much was scheduled for Friday anyway, tech and time trials. Saturday was to be two time trials, and a gambler's race with an extra $50 entry fee. They didn't have enough cars and enough takers on the fee to even have that race. We got the Y race in, Greg Dietrich won again, Frank Rice was runner up. Sunday we woke up to heavy rain and predictions of 90% chance of rain. Most left the track before the track officially called it. Bob Martin called me this morning saying the track said keep your receipt you got when you came in, the $100 entries will be worth $75 next year. I don't know how any of the other entries will be pro-rated. I know this doesn't affect you, Paul, but others will read this post and get the message in case they miss Bob's call. And to satisfy your curiosity, I redlighted second round against Robin Church.

I ran my best time ever at Columbus Sat morning, 12.74 with a .09 reaction time during time trials. BUT I went red in first round against Rick Martin. By the way it was good to see Rick back at the track with a car this year. Deb and I had a great time just seeing everyone again, and I want to think Gary for giving my little sis a ride in his bird, she was still talking about it when we got her home in Huntsville.

Not much! Are you kidding Dennis. That's great for a small block pickup. Every year you chip away a bit more. I bet you grinned all the way home. Sorry I couldn't be there to see it. Next year! Chuck

Congrats to all on their accomplishments!!! Hope all had a safe trip home as well!!!
Sorry I couldn't make it this year, as it just wasn't in the budget. Plus I had to park Old Vicky early this year as it seems she has finally gotten tired after 13 years of pounding and abuse!!! (Not bad for a stock Y!) She has developed a bad knock after warm up and when she is over 3000 RPM. Oil pressure is still good, but after a conversation with Ted, feel it might be a cracked piston. Oh well, on the bright side, I think it is time to melt the plastic and invest in some good old John Mummert parts!!! John, I will be calling you shortly about an engine kit!!!
Hope to see you all next year!!!

Ol Ford Guy (9/1/2014) What happened at Columbus this year? I didn't make it and am wondering who did what.Paul. We missed you as well as some of the other regulars this year.
Ditto on what John mentions about the ticket stub. For those of you that still have them, they are worth $75 towards next years entry fee.
And added to John’s reply above, Robin Church took me out in the first round. It was going to be tough to top a good light on his side of the tree as well as running right on his dial. As a result, Robin got the bounty that was on my head. The Quick 16 class was a different story though where I did qualify in the top half of the field and made it to the quarter-finals which was worth a little cash.

To Everyone Much, Much thanks to every one for the help at Columbus this weekend both on the car & loading up in the flood.I didn't get enough water Sunday so I went to local track Monday & what more rain my only time run was 13.10 which included a complet loss of traction in all of second gear till I made my last shift into 3rd.I would of never though that in 3900 lbs. of car & driver. This engine is only .017 better then the old one on 60 foot time so there is some more there to get which didn't surprize me as I could feel the tires turn . Since I have some things to work on like wider Weld Draglite rear rims ect.& now I don'thave any secerts on what Ia'm doing I will be back on here on the tech fourm for thoughts & ideas. I only do a few things of what I am told {just ask Wally and Rick Martin] but I like to hear ideas to get me thinking. Harry Hutten Jr.

Congrats to all and hope you all made it home safe! Harry's 12.90's is impressive, we have to hear more about what he did to that new motor! What was his MPH??? must be near 115, looking at a slip I have here of a 12.74 time the mph was 117. Again, congrats to all!

I hope to get a small article sent in to Y-Block Mag. soon, but there is nothing exciting in the engine except Mummert heads & Intake. Harry

I was in the other lane next to Harry and he ran a killer 12.933 at 105.98 mph. Congrats!! Harry. This car surprised a lot of people which shows what the new heads and intake reworked can do. His Merc looked great going down the track.

So Ted, no new records yet?

I think Bob Martin also had a best after having an overdue tune up performed at the track.

Here are some pictures taken by the Steve and Kris Culp. http://www.culplake.com/Cool_Stuff.php I am currently working towards getting Charlie’s, Bob’s, and my Expo pictures together. Once that happens, I’ll have Jim make them accessible through the YBF site.

Hollow Head (9/4/2014)
.....So Ted, no new records yet? No new records for the time being. For consistency purposes, I’ve been running the car about two tenths slower than what it can run flat out. Until I actually make some changes to the car, it’s not going to run any faster. Gearing and headers are on the list of changes for the current combination but I’m contemplating some serious internal engine design changes down the road. Just have to wait and see how everything works out.

I drove Bob Martin's Mercury and the tune up in the pit consisted of checking the valve lash and reading a plug, which Ted suggested we should change in the next couple of years! The old Merc. ran great, but the driver was a sleep at the light. Congrats to Royce for cutting a perfect light .000 I think he was trying to red light and messed up.

I could have used that light against Greg.

And I could have used it against Frank instead of the red one I put up.....Of course the .000 was in time trials and therefore wasted lol
News from Rick Martin: Harry Hutton was out at TriState drag strip yesterday and put up a 12.79 at 108 mph.

Harry turning a 12.79 is really something. That's faster than lighter big block Super Storck cars were turning back in the day. Congrats Harry.

A slight correction the E.T. was 12.71 at 108 + mph. Still bad weather but removing the choke plate and choke horn and a 1&1/2" volicity stack it went fom 12.87 to the 12.74 same every thing else just 15 minuites apart backed up with a 12.71. Still having tractions problems that may be taken care of this week Harry

Harry, that matches my best times with the Falcon and I know it is several hundred pounds lighter than the Merc!! You have come up with something in that combo that is making some serious HP. Congrat's, I am proud for you.

That is down right incredible. I've heard that 1960 Mercurys have been mistaken by military aircraft thinking they were aircraft carriers due to their massive size. That Merc is definitely going to shock the Nostagia crowd for sure.
