Will a 289 Y Block mount in my '64 Mercury Comet? What would be the 4 speed tranny to fit this?

Do you have an odd size Y-block, or are you asking about a sbf 289ci engine? The 221-260-289-302 all fit that body style with either a toploader 4-speed and appropriate bell housing, or t-10 with appropriate bell housing. The early sbf 289 ci engines had a 5 bolt bell housing, and changed to 6 bolts in 1966. Joe-JDC

Thank you Joe,
I am sorry, I read the ad wrong. It is a 239 Y-block not a 289. I am looking for an engine to fit my '64 Comet and the tranny. I saw an add for a 239 Y-block and saw 289. Thank you for you reply.

Not quite sure but they put FE's in 64 fairlanes (not sure about the comets) and where an FE fit a Y should, similar mounts. However exhaust may take some working out.
