Tomorrow morning (Saturday Nov 9) I am going to look at 2 Y block 292's - ones a truck motor from 64 and the other one is a passenger car motor with ECZ-C heads so the owner says. Could be a good score here, we will see. He said he has a T-86 3 speed overdrive transmission from a 56 Ford passenger car complete with the cable, wiring, etc, but told me it was a toploader transmission. I thought all of the 55/56 Ford passenger car overdrive transmissions were side load T86's??? Can anyone help me here on what I should be looking for? I want to put one in a 55 Ford Club Sedan.
The guy is only an hour away.
I promise there will be photos.

They had both side and top loaders in '56

what are the advantages/disadvantages of either one? Would a T86 be side load (I have one in my garage) and then another version is also a toploader?

sorry fellas, no photos... a classic case of "quote one price on the phone and raise it up when he shows"
After driving over an hour with a buddy to look at everything, right out of the gate he doubled the price he quoted me over the phone 2 days prior to that. He said something about how he forgot what he paid for that, that one over there is worth more, you can't find these any more so there $+++++, and so on.
I offered him money on two "complete" 292 cores (they weren't) and he wouldn't deal, so I turned around and left.
FYI - he said the overdrive transmission came from a 59 Ford - it did have an R10 overdrive on it. The transmission was not a T86
