I am tired of reading about the scrub motors in the old Fords so its time for my Chevy to be Ford powered, was thinking about a 351-c I have but the more I think about it the 272 would be the easiest to go in. I think I can use a truck 3 speed bellhousing and front mount and should go in easily so over the winter I am going to find those parts and a rear sump oil pan,it looks like my Chevy might get a Y block before my 55 does.

Given the goal, I think the 351 is the better choice. The Chevy guys will probably think a Y-block is just some odd GM engine and find it alright. There will be no confusing a 351.
When I had the oem F O R D valve covers on it, people asked me if it was a Chevy. People who don't know any better think it is a Chevy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think anyone has made fake Scrub valve covers to fit on a Y-Block. Must be some reason for that. I did see a mid 30's scrub truck this summer with a Mercedes 5 cylinder diesel engine. There was no mistaking that! Chuck

The engine compartment is a little narrow so I think the Y block might be the better choice,I need to do some measuring before I decide on what motor to use.

Putting the Y (or any Ford engine for that matter) in the ’37 works for me. I had a hand in putting a 1970 model 351C in a ’63 scrub pickup with a Ford toploader 4 speed. Turned out to be a nice swap and runs good. It's also an attention getter at the local cruise-ins.

I think it would be a good idea to leave the hood on, if possible so it can be covered. That way you can get comments on how good that Chevy sounds or performs, etc... and then make the reveal.

I wish more would do this!!! If I ever win the lottery, I am buying a concurs 57 vette and dropping a Y in it!!! Then maybe it will go!!! Will have to put the "Thunder Bird Speacial" emblems on the side, instead of those usleess fuelie badges too!!!

The thick oil did not hide the rattle in the 235 for very long so I will have to be thinking about a motor soon,I would like to keep it powered by a six and measured the 300 in my 95 F150 and its close to the same length. I might be able to almost bolt in a 223 or 262 six using truck mounts and that would confuse alot of people since the carb is on the same side and the two bolts on top of the valve cover, paint it the 216 gray and a couple Chevy stickers and even the diehards might have a hard time telling what it is. The oil filter in the block would be the only thing to give it away so that might be the best choice for a motor.
