I was at my friend Maycon's this Friday and he had a '68 Galaxie there. It's a Brazilian made Galaxie, so it looks like a '66, and has an Y under the hood. It was straight piped. I made a small film to show the exhaust note. The engine is pretty stock, it's just a 272, with a custom Holley carburetor in place of the original Webber - DFV

Sweet! there was however a lot of background noise. They came stock with Webbers down there?

Yes, the Ys here came with a two barrel carburetor by Webber and manufactured by a company called DFV under licence. Same carburetor some Simca V8 cas used. It was not all that of a carburetor, as the accelerator pump was a endless source of headaches, not to mention it restricted the engine in the name of fuel consumption, and it was usually replaced by a Motorcraft 2100 that Ford used on 302 engines at the first sign of problem. Anyway, this is the Webber-DFV carburetor:

Here is one mounted on a 292:

Nice! It's good to hear as I plan to start with straight pipes all the way back on my Model A. If Kathy thinks it's too loud then it will get a set of 18" glass packs.

Yeah, tell me about it!! The first years didn't have a fan shroud, so they had that spacer to get the fan closer to the radiator.

Well Tim, even tough it sounds really good, I wouldn't run straights on my Galaxie. I tried, but on highway speeds it gets annoying. I have the closest thing, a 10 inches long glass pack for each side, and it's borderline too loud on long highway legs. Give it a try, I think if you are only driving in town it won't be a problem.
