I hope it ok to put this in This n That. I really don't want to open another "can or worms" but beginning Sept 15,2013 Magellan Midstream Partners (the largest pipeline company in Iowa) will no longer ship "clear" 87octane gas. Instead the pipeline will begin transporting 84 octane to be blended with ethanol to bring it up to the 87 octane level. Its expected that this move by Magellan will likley have other pipeline operators doing the same across the nation. Premium fuel will be availabe at a few outlets but is expected to be VERY expensive. E15 is to be used in 2001 vehicles or newer.
Iowa Renewable Energy Assoc says that the only 89 octane gas sold in Iowa will be E15.With the 84 octane there is no way to get to 89 octane by only adding 10% ethanol..that will only make it 87 octane. I have heard that there will be a "splash" or premium added to get it to 89 octane but as of right now everything seems to be "up in the air". But for those of you living in Iowa or traveling thru keep this in mind.....I don't think they even know how or if the pumps will be labeled.
Sound to me like a lot of lobbying and of course they are saying with ethanol were helping fight "big oil"....
Enough of my soap box for today I think as I travel I might be forced to use 10% ethanol but if the car sits for more than couple of weeks I'll find some true premium and keep the tank filled. Hope all this makes some since

So now we're helping "Big Ethanol". Follow the money far enough and you'll find a certain politician's cronies...
